Winter 2009!

This winter has been exciting and cold! The coldest temperature I've ever experienced in my life occurred just a few days ago: -24 deg C (-11 deg F). And we've had tons and tons of snow. There is nothing like the majestic silence of a snow-covered forest full of glittering snow crystals.

We went ice fishing on Christmas evening. Here Hans and Lars sit on the ice and attempt to catch something out of the hole we've drilled in the ice.

We also took advantage of a beautiful, clear day and went cross-country skiing.

And then of course we had a delicious 7 course dinner (that took 6 hours to eat) on New Year's Eve, cooked mostly by Lars.
Appetizer: Fish roe, creme fraich and red onions, champagne
Soup: Lots of veggies and cream, baguette baked by Lars, white wine
Salad: Red beet salad with feta cheese
Main dish: Roasted Lamb (one of Lars and Ann-Britt's own sheep) accompanied by fennel sauteed in butter and risotto, white wine-Chablis
Cheese: Blue goat cheese and bread, red port wine
Dessert: baked pears spiced with ginger, clove, and cinnamon, topped with almonds
2nd Dessert: home made cookies and hand-picked wild raspberries (both by Ann-Britt), chocolate ice cream
The appetizer is on the left and main dish is on the right. We wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
